IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR STUDENTS!
Dear students,
Starting from October 1st, 2025, mandatory Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be introduced for all users of the Office 365 environment, in accordance with the security recommendations of the University of Rijeka and Microsoft requirements. The goal of this change is to enhance the security of your user accounts.
What does this mean for you?
Throughout September, you will be reminded of this requirement several times. To activate MFA, it is enough to change your password via the provided link – MFA protection will be automatically enabled within 24 hours.
Important:
Once MFA is automatically enabled, during your next login to Office 365, the system will guide you through the MFA setup process, allowing you to choose one of the available MFA methods.
Which MFA methods can you use?
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Google Authenticator
- SMS code
- Passkey (the most secure option – you won’t need to enter a password when logging into O365, instead you’ll log in using biometric data, but it requires a compatible version of the mobile operating system)
- Passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator require iOS 17 or newer
- Android 9 or newer; Passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator require Android 14 or newer
For most users, the Microsoft Authenticator app will be the simplest and fastest solution.

For other services/applications you use (e.g., Merlin, computer logins), there will be no changes – you will only need to use your newly chosen password.
